This is the third Blog Post of the series: The Process of Change
If you have not yet done so, take some time to read Posts #1 & #2, as the series is about change & what brings about change in our lives. When do we decide that it's time to change? It's different for everyone but in these posts, I am sharing my own experience with you. So, in a nutshell, up to now my health deteriorated and I acknowledged that it’s time to change my lifestyle and habits, so what is next….?
Taking Action
Taking Action! Doing it! And this is exactly why my clients consult with a health coach because they simply do not know where to start and how to begin. It was the same for me, I found myself in a situation where I knew change is a must, but I did not know where to start. The internet is flooded with contradictory information and advice, there is just no way of knowing if you are going in the right direction. After doing a lot of research, and meeting a health coach for the first time, I knew that health coaching was the solution for me. The field was relatively new in South Africa at the time, and still is a bit unknown today, so there were not a lot of options available, and with that research, I identified a gap in the market. I then decided I did not just want to find someone to help me, I wanted to go through the whole process of qualifying so that I can help others as well.
What do you want?
It is firstly important to decide WHAT you want and WHY you want it. The health coaching process is designed to help you realise that vision, what you want for your health and your life, and why you want it. That vision will pull you through to continue with your journey when motivation seems to be low.
I already established what I do not want, and that is deteriorating health, high cholesterol, fatty liver disease, tiredness, anxiety, and depression. What I wanted was a healthy life so that I can be there for my family in a way that they deserve, I wanted energy and a zest for life that only a healthy lifestyle can provide. I envisioned myself a year down the road where I am healthy, happy, and able to be there for my friends, family, and community who wants to take control of their life and implement healthy lifestyle changes. And, together with my health coach and personal development through my health coaching course, I made a plan to get there.
Health Coaching is the key to taking action towards creating that new healthy lifestyle, coaching provides you with support and accountability through the process every step of the way. Lifestyle change cannot happen without behaviour change. We have to choose to take action and that we want to work towards our health goals. Taking action means working actively towards that vision that you have for your health and life. Are you ready to take action?
